Recent research data shows that some of the features of light used in bird-farms have a strong effect on bird growth and reproduction. By choosing the right type of lighting with correct light spectrum and intensity, the efficacy of production without loss of quality may be increased.
Lighting system usually absorbs a large volume electricity in indoor bird-farms, which constitutes both the products cost and the operating costs of the company. To decrease this amount, it is recommended to use LED light sources. LUMO LINE devices can be used for general lighting. LUMO FL4400 is recommended for outdoor lighting. SC „Vilniaus Paukstynas” has modernized the lighting of 5 bird-farms, used for growing of paternal chicken. LUMO LED lighting solutions using „Philips Lumileds” light emitting diodes have been chosen for this project. The consumption of electricity decreased by four times compared to tungsten light sources and nine times compared to regular light-bulbs. The luminance increased 50-60 lux. With only 92 LED light sources used, a farm of 1700 m2 was fully lighted. The current consumption of electricity is as little as 1,2 kW. Special light intensity controls gradually change the luminance from 1 to 60 lux as required by the technological requirements for growing birds. It was impossible to achieve this result with tungsten light sources. It has improved the economy of electricity consumption, because when reducing the intensity of light, the electricity consumption decreases respectively. The main benefit of LED light sources for us was the possibility to control the luminance.
LED light sources do not require any service, due to the durability. Our investment in modernization the lighting system to LUMO LED returned the investment in 18 months.”
