Modernisation of Technical Rooms in the Wagon Plant by Replacing Sodium-Vapour Lamps with LED Illuminators
400 W sodium-vapour lamps, used in the wagon plant so far, have been replaced by 110W LED illuminators “Lumo 90-48”. In order to optimise energy costs to the highest extent, the lighting system control has been installed as well – “Lumo” LED illuminators operate at full capacity only if appropriate. Thus, electricity consumption costs have decreased as much as 5 times.
Due to the character of the plant’s activities, a height of the technical rooms amounts to 12 metres. Up to now, this resulted in high additional lighting maintenance costs: service life of the sodium-vapour lamps was at least 2-3 times shorter than of the “Lumo” LED illuminators; besides, the lamps required a special lifting equipment to access them in such a high room. Moreover, sometimes and quite unexpectedly, the sodium-vapour lamps burn out upon voltage fluctuations in electric mains. In this case, LED illuminators are resistant and are not expected to be replaced for at least 12 years.
Nevertheless, even at the end of service life of the “Lumo” LED illuminators, they can be easily reactivated by changing only the LED module, without replacing the illuminator’s housing. Meanwhile, dead sodium-vapour lamps should be utilized pursuing to the special procedure established for disposal of hazardous waste.
In addition, Lumo” LED illuminators have several advantages: they are resistant to vibrations and frequent switching on or off; in case of the voltage failure and recovery, they immediately switch on. On the contrary, sodium-vapour lamps need much time to warm up and reach their operating mode.
“Lumo 90” illuminators, installed in the wagon plant, have been fitted with a special optics which estimates a proper angle of light emission, thus, ensuring in a room an even 200 lux brightness in compliance with the standards.
